Crammed's electronic music imprint SSR ("Sampler & Sans Reproche") was founded in 88, around the time of the first explosion of house music in the UK.

After an initial string of adventurous 12” releases and club classics such as YBU’s “Soul Magic”, SSR lay dormant for a couple of years, and came back to life in 94 with the launch of the Freezone series, which quickly became one of the world’s best compilation of downtempo electronic music. Seven volumes of Freezone have come out -practically each year- under the direction of arch-tastemaker DJ Morpheus, who has consistently displayed his legendary flair by introducing major electronic artists such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Cam, Mighty Bop aka Bob Sinclar, Basement Jaxx, Herbert, LTJ Bukem, Thievery Corporation, etc., years before they came to prominence.

1994 saw the advent of two little sister imprints to SSR: Paris-based drum'n'bass label Selector (whose A&R was Catherine Piault) and London-based avant-tronic division Language, with Tony "Moody Boyz" Thorpe at the helm (while the musical policy of SSR proper was handledby DJ Morpheus & Marc Hollander).

SSR, Language & Selector have released albums by major artists such as London’s jungle visionaries 4 Hero (in 95), abstract hip hop pioneers Tek 9 (96) and Detroit icon Carl Craig (97). The imprints' most distinctive signings included brilliant French lounge-master Snooze, London electro maverick Buckfunk 3000 (aka Si Begg) and inspired UK electronic jazz artist Juryman (aka Ian Simmonds).
