The result of this ephemeral Gogan/Zazou collaboration is an impressive blend of Barbara’s very personal vocal and lyrical style, and Hector’s unique approach to soundscapes and textures.
Gogan and Zazou were surrounded by studio wizard Peter Walsh (who produced recent albums by Scott Walker, Jack, as well as albums by Peter Gabriel and the Simple Minds), by Only Child (the ex-member of F.A.Daffodils who is part of Manchester collective Grand Central/Fat City, and who contributed additional production and mixes for several of the album’s tracks), and by various American & French musicians : keyboard player Peter Scherer (ex-Ambitious Lovers), guitarists Henry Frayne (Moon 7X) and Marc Ribot, bassist Sara Lee, woodwind player Renaud Pion etc.
The album was recorded in London, Paris, Dublin and the American Midwest. It was mixed at Real World Studio near Bath.
The album’s release was preceded by the release of a 12” EP on Crammed’s sister label SSR, featuring reworkings by three British abstract hip hop producers: Ninja Tune’s Funky Porcini, Only Child, and new SSR signing Juryman.
