"Strength EP"
Strength, the new track by Nova Materia, was written as an instant response to recent political events in Chile, and resounds like a manifesto, echoing the band’s sensitivity to that situation, to worldwide social and ecological upheavals in general, as well as to gender issues.
The track opens with the sound of stones hitting the metal wall of Chilean company Telefonica, recorded by the band’s Eduardo Henriquez in Santiago de Chile (where he’s originally from) during the massive Nov. 2019 street demonstrations against the ruling power.
These stones are used as the foundation for a dark, heavy electronic rhythm track which evokes a primal, spiritual and feminine war, while industrial textures and metallic percussion gradually lead the song into a hybrid area, at once tropical, postpunk and clubby. French producer Krikor contributed some additional production on the various versions of the track.
As a reminder, Nova Materia are a Chilean/French duet consisting of Caroline Chaspoul and Eduardo Henriquez. Since the release of their debut album It Comes, their powerful, hypnotic music — incorporating eerie sounds generated by raw and mineral materials— has set fire to stages around Europe, and is also making headway in the visual arts & performance communities.
Track list:
1. Stregth
2. Strength (In The Tropics)
3. Strength Dub
