The 3rd volume of the Juryman trilogy is an album full of multi-layered sceneries which includes soundbites collected by Ian Simmonds in his audio diary during his travels around the globe. The music is again an organic and inspired blend of electronics (electro-jazz +broken beats +dub+ techno) combined with original live instrumentation and vocals by Ian, as well as guests vocal appearances by Cibelle and Stretcher.

From the original press release:

Running away becomes increasingly futile, in this post-industrial world where everything is beginning to look, sound and even smell the same...

Starting with a basic reflection on this idea, Ian Simmonds aka Juryman created this album (his 3rd for SSR/Crammed) full of multi-layered sceneries and powerful emotions which includes soundbites collected by Ian in his audio diary during his travels around the globe.

The music is a skillful and inspired blend of electronics (from electro-jazz and broken beats to dub, hip hop and techno) combined with original live instrumentation and vocals by Ian, as well as guests vocal appearances by Cibelle and Stretcher.

In the wake of the previous Juryman and Ian Simmonds albums (respectively out on SSR/Crammed and on Studio K7), the music press and the cognoscenti have acclaimed Ian as one of the most original and visionary electronic artists...

Kudos

"One of Britain's most vital talents" (Mojo, UK)
"A leading light of the nu-jazz scene" (Music Week, UK)
"Introduces the panoramic mantle of Lalo Schiffrin and John Barry to Massive Attack's more contemporary vision" (Jockey Slut, UK)
"Hailed as a nu-electronic-jazz-messiah" (On, UK)
"One of the inventors of today's sound, alongside Moby, Tricky or Howie B" (Le Monde, France)
"Alongside Kruder & Dorfmeister, Juryman is one of few producers to successfully breach the chasm that keeps DJ culture from more tangible, organic realms. " (XLR8R, USA)

All these superlative quotes refer to Juryman's previous album, and everything that was said about "The Hill" is all the more true in relation to "Escape To Where": in the world of electronic dance music (for want of a better term), Juryman is definitely one of the rare artists who can depict such vivid landscapes and elicit such powerful feelings... this album is deep !.... it transcends all these narrow categories (electronic jazz etc), it's a self-contained universe, full of lights and shadows... it has unique textures, an inspired blend of electronics and original live instrumentation. "Escape' is also charged with an extremely captivating lyrical content which manages to make a poetic, political and social statement at the same time.
