Composer/lutenist Jozef Van Wissem to release new album on Crammed's Made To Measure series

Composer/lutenist Jozef Van Wissem to release new album on Crammed's Made To Measure series

The New York-based Dutchman's very personal work was recently showcased in his award-winning soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive". Both Jarmusch & Yasmine Hamdan are guesting on the new album.

The entrancing "It Is Time For You To Return" is Jozef Van Wissem's brand-new album (his first for Crammed Discs' revived Made To Measure series), and functions as a perfect introduction to his music which, this time around, is enhanced by a new feature, as Jozef wrote and performed hypnotic vocals for some of the nine pieces.

The album also benefits from the presence of young Chilean filmmaker Domingo Garcia-Huidobro, who contributed electronic programming on a couple of tracks. And Jim Jarmusch (on guitar) & Yasmine Hamdan (on vocales) appear on one of the songs.

"It Is Time For You To Return" will be coming out on November 10, 2014.
Jozef Van Wissem will be extensively touring around Europe and the USA, check the dates here.

Check out the first video from the forthcoming new album!

Argentian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito returns with his long awaited third album, Amansara. Originally coming out of Buenos Aires' famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously expanded beyond those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguyan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore - all processed through his own futuristic strain of  electronic music.  Chancha's sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable, to the extent that he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists which have begun to carry his genes.
Chancha Via Circuito new album, Amansara, will be coming out after the Summer, but you can see the first video "Coplita" here.

"Chez les Aborigènes", the first single off "Ex-Futur Album"...

... the avant-pop opus from 1980-83 by Véronique Vincent & Aksak Maboul

Written & recorded by Véronique Vincent (Honeymoon Killers vocalist) and Marc Hollander (Aksak Maboul & Crammed Discs founder), in collaboration with Vincent Kenis (Aksak Maboul/Congotronics), this album was announced in Crammed's early catalogues, but was never completed. It has now been assembled (and partly retrieved from demos, rough mixes and cassette tapes), and will come out in October 2014, with a slight delay of 30 years.

The single also comprises a new remix by great electronic music duet Easy & C.O.U. (who are stalwarts of the Nordic skweee scene).

Kasai Allstars' wild new album now on preorder

Kasai Allstars' wild new album now on preorder

The long-awaited 2nd LP by the mindblowing Congotronics collective from Kinshasa, DRC, will come out as a 2CD and a limited-ed. vinyl

Filmed during the recordings, "The Chief's Enthronement", the first video off the album was premiered on Pitchfork.

The album just got an enthusiastic and extensive write-up in The Wire Magazine who, among many other things, points out that "this is why Kasai Allstars connect so strongly with us. When these musicians get on stage it's easy to draw lines to VU-inspired rock, dub and the tracier areas of club music. Moreaover, nowadays we get Js and software wranglers, whereas these guys handle chunky, often self-built instruments, physically creating the music. It's exhilarating just to watch this much physical work from a musician."

The 2CD and 1LP versions of "Beware the Fetish" can now be preordered HERE

JUANA MOLINA: new video, tours, back-catalogue reissue

JUANA MOLINA: new video, tours, back-catalogue reissue

To follow up on the release of her acclaimed new album, Juana Molina is releasing a second music video, and is doing an extensive series of shows this Spring & Summer

Directed by Argentine filmmaker/artist Dr Sepian, the new video was shot in Tierra de Fuego, at the southernmost tip of the South American continent. It's inspired by the Hain initiation ceremonies which used to be performed by the Shelknam people, who were among the original inhabitants of Patagonia. Young men on the verge of puberty were sent out alone in the forest, and had to perform a series of tasks (such as hunting, or fighting demons of the forest) before being considered as grown men and allowed to come back to the fold of the tribe.

Filmed in breathtaking landscapes, this story of magic and rituals works as a perfectly apt visual illustration for a track which was described by Pitchfork as A twisting, live wire of a song that takes the listener's attention hostage and runs off into the woods… and by SPIN Magazine as being eerie, hypnotic, and building to increasingly haunting heights…

Juana Molina is closing her 3-week US tour with an L.A. show on April 27, and will soon be embarking on a long European tour from May to August, which will include appearances at festivals such as Nuits Botanique in Brussels, Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Villette Sonique in Paris, Roskilde (DK), Pohoda (SK), SummerStage in New York, Rock al Parque in Bogota (Colombia), Nuits de Fourvière in Lyon (opening for Damon Albarn),  End Of The Road (UK), as well as  shows in London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Frankfurt,  and many more to be announced soon. Tour details here

Meanwhile, Crammed Discs are delighted to announce the digital reissue of Juana Molina's four previous albums, Segundo (originally released in 2000), Tres Cosas (2002), Son (2006) and Un Día (2008), which are now available again through all main digital stores worldwide, as well as on Crammed's online store.

Amatorski

Amatorski "Impatience" limited-edition DVD

The classiest & most delicate Belgian band around lifts the veil on a wilder side of its music with a limited-edition DVD of a special performance inspired by an experimental movie from 1928.

During Winter 2011/2012, Amatorski created a special live show for which they wrote original music to accompany "Impatience", the film directed in 1928 by Charles Dekeukeleire, an unsung hero of early experimental cinema.

Influenced by the ideas of Futurist and Dadaist artists, Dekeukeleire wanted to create 'pure cinema'. He was only 23 when he directed "Impatience", his second film, which some international film historians place on the same level as Luis Buñuel's Un chien andalou. The film is built around four series of images: 'a motorbike, a woman, a mountain and abstract blocks'. There is no linear storyline, yet the treatment and combination of the elements (human, machine, nature, speed, shapes) is eerily poetic and echoes the works of modernist painters, musicians and writers of that period.

Amatorski wrote a magnificent new soundtrack for the film, a continuous, 36-minute piece which includes abstract sonic textures as well as soaring, enchanting melodies. The show (which was performed on a 30-date theatre tour) consisted of a screening of the movie with a simultaneous live performance of the soundtrack.

Amatorski are now delighted to release "Impatience", a great final stage to round off what has already been an amazing year 2013, which saw the international release of their debut album "TBC", the launch of their award-winning interactive online project "Deleting Borders", the release of a remix album ("re:tbc"), and a series of shows around Europe which garnered them an increasing number of devoted followers.

This limited-edition DVD, includes:

1. Amatorski's live performance of the soundtrack at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels

2. The original 1928 film, accompanied by the soundtrack

3. A coupon with a unique code for downloading the audio soundtrack
