Junglized 1 has turned out to be a really classic compilation which, unlike many d'n'b collections, was still in demand years after its initial release. One reason for its success might be the spirit which presided to the choice of tracks: open-minded, without prejudice, and without too much fear of crossing the borders between sub-genres.
It was followed by Junglized 2, compiled once again by Selector's Catherine Piault, and it presented a great cross-selection of cuts, ranging from the melodic to the hard (without dwelling too much on the then over-exposed dark strains of d'n'b), with a definite emphasis on musicality and freshness.
Among the featured tracks/artists are 4 Hero's sublime remix of Nuyorican Soul's I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun (with its heady mixture of acoustics & eletronics, soul & drum'n'bass), Aquasky in a hip hop mood, a remix of Florida's Pimp Daddy Nash by London's EZ Rollers, a dreamy track by foremost US junglist Jamie Myerson, Vienna's Tosca (Dorfmeister & Huber) remixed by Germany's Fauna Flash. There's also two classic tracks from the UK (Exocet's Demon Speed and Fellowship's Celebrate Life) , and tracks by several artists from the budding French scene: the already highly-rated Gilb-R (who runs the Versatile label), Le Dav (who operate under a multitude of guises from a cellar in the small Northern town of Saint Quentin, check out his home page), Audio Direction (from Toulouse), St Esprit (remixed by Endemic Void), and Kaflaboo Unit, a gang of youngsters from the Paris suburbs headed by Little J.
